Smoke Less or Quit Smoking

To assist with the process of tobacco harm reduction, smokers can do everyone a great service by cutting back on their smoking or quitting altogether. Neither of these will eliminate all of the risks that came before they chose to quit smoking, but they do come pretty close.

Tobacco harm reduction is a controversial idea but in the long-term, should not be. What many people do not like about this idea is that it promotes the use of smokeless tobacco and e-cigarettes. These are the same people who are not quite convinced that going this route is beneficial to your health.

Over 45 million individuals in the United States continue to smoke daily. Every single year over 435,000 people die from diseases related to smoking. Even when these individuals are made aware of the alternatives, many have a difficult quitting their nicotine addiction. Smokeless tobacco and e-cigs have the ability to guide these addicts into the right direction in terms of quitting their harmful habit.

The idea itself is only controversial because many experts are still not convinced of the benefits of switching to a non-tobacco product. E-cigarettes have a lot controversy surrounding them in regards to their health benefits. When the fact of the matter is, they contain less nicotine which is beneficial to your health, and they do not can tobacco which is what causes many of the conditions and diseases that kill hundreds of thousands of Americans every year.

Negative Effects of Tobacco

Tobacco has the ability to damage just about every single organ within the body. It also causes a number of diseases and decreases the level of health in a smoker’s body. It can increase the risk of coronary heart disease, liver dysfunction, chronic pulmonary disease, and even reproductive problems in women. Smoking causes more deaths each year than any other disease, condition, or crime-related incident.

If there are so many negative effects to using tobacco then why is tobacco harm reduction so controversial?  The pros of this movement definitely outweigh the cons. Even if e-cigarettes are not 100% safe, they are much safer than tobacco. They do not contain any tobacco and you are able to control the amount of nicotine in the e-cig.

As long as there are people there will be opinions. If you are currently a smoker the best thing you can do right now is quit altogether. If you cannot quit without the help of an e-cigarette then that is definitely the route should take. Smoking is extremely harmful to your health so tobacco harm reduction has the right idea in the long run.
